We arrived in Santorini at 1pm and from a distance the white houses made the island look like mountains with snow on top.

We had to get a tender to shore and the wait for the tender was a while. We were tender 15 so we didn’t get off until 2.30 pm.
There were 3 options to get to Thira, the town at the top of the hill. Walk, donkey or cable car.

We decided we’d walk because the cable car would have lines and I didn’t want to do the donkey because they looked so tired and hot.
It turned out not to be a great idea. 288 slippery steps, donkey poo, donkeys and it was hot and I had too many martinis the night before!!

The donkeys were being sent back down and you’d have to move right up against the wall so they wouldn’t run you over. I had to push some over so they didn’t squash me! It was the running of the donkeys!!
It was so hot I’d sweated out those martinis by the time I reached the top.
I wished we’d taken the donkey option.
Once at the top we had to have a rest and cool down with the most amazing view.

As we had a limited time on the island we needed to keep an eye on the time and try and make the most of it.
We heard that we needed to see the town of Oia. We thought we’d take a taxi because it would be quicker but none would stop so we went on the local bus. It was about 30 minutes.
Oia was definitely worth the trip. The beautiful white buildings and blue domes are just like in the movies. Lots of cute little shops and the view!! So picturesque.

We stopped and had a drink in one of the restaurants too.

We timed the bus back to Thira perfectly.
It was 6pm when we arrived back in Thira and the last tender was at 8.15pm so we had time to have some dinner.
We found a restaurant called Cafe Classico. We had the most amazing seafood platter ever! It had mussels, prawns, a whole bream, scallops, a whole squid ( which was sliced into rings but not all the way through) and a big octopus tentacle with roasted vegetables and chips. Delicious!!

We had finished by 7.15 and went to see what the line for the cable car was like. Thank goodness it was only about a 20 minute wait so we didn’t have to go down the path! It would have been easier going down but it was so slippery I’m sure one of us would have landed on our butt.

We made it to the ship on one of the last tenders.
We had a fantastic day on Santorini and managed to time our day perfectly and maximize the little time we had.
Santorini is another place to revisit someday.
We finished the day with a beautiful sunset.
