“A” for apple Albany. A large harbour city with a population of 30,000! It sits on the King George’s Sound. The coast is beautiful with the water very inviting but the weather is still not the best.
Steve and I decided to explore the area on the bikes. Yes! Back on the bike for me!! Although Steve was a little nervous and kept a close eye on me. We did around 20kms of exploring along a fantastic bike path. A stop for coffee at Emu Bay which would’ve be been a great spot for a paddle. Very protected from the wind.
We then cycled into town along the path. Lots of lookouts. We visited Peace Park and The National Anzac Centre both telling the story of the of all the Australian Imperial Forces and New Zealand Forces who left from Albany for WW1. The National Anzac Centre was very interesting and interactive. You were given a picture card on one of the soldiers and as you moved through the centre you placed your card down on various places which gave you information about your soldier. At the end you found out if your soldier survived. Really well done.
We had a beautiful lunch also at The Garrison.
Finally we rode back to Middleton Beach Caravan Park. We were out all day. I was buggered!!
Unfortunately the night before we were welcomed by some of the locals. Luckily Steve is a light sleeper. He could hear a noise and when he moved to go out and check it out whoever it was ran away. They were trying to steal our bikes!! They had managed to very quietly undo the ratchet strap and we’re working on the lock!!! Very disturbing!! The neighbours lotst two disc brake wheels and a bag of camping gear. The locals decided the camping gear wasn’t useful and threw it in the bushes outside the park. They did however like the bag and took it. Apparently the park has security?! I think someone in the park tells the locals when some nice bikes come in because this happens rarely according to the staff. Mmmm?? Anyway we were lucky ours didn’t go.
We were happy to be packing up the next day for Esperance!! Not much sleep last night. Couldn’t wait to get out of there!
Didn’t I tell you to electrify the bikes so that anyone touching them would be subjected to a 50,000 volt “get your hands off my ****ing bike!!” shock? Great that your a light sleeper, a product of your Flemington days no doubt 🙂
