Pottsville

Bel and I left Byron Bay, sadly no accomodation left due to holidays and blues fest, and headed north to Pottsville. Only half an hours drive, we went there on the advice of the guys we met in Nambucca.

We weren’t expecting much, but it turned out completely different. What a lovely place. Located between a large creek and the ocean. Crystal clear water to swim and paddle in. Our camping ground was also only a 5 minute walk to town.

After setting up camp we headed straight to the water front for a swim. The water  was beautiful and clear and must have been about 24 degrees.

After the swim we set up our chairs out the front and watched all the Easter holiday crowd roll in – it’s great seeing the kids, still in school uniform, arrive so excited to be on holidays.

A roast dinner and we were early to bed. We were both very tired and looking forward to a good sleep,  unfortunately it didn’t happen as the guy in the caravan next to us decided he had to fix his rear window at 4am! WTF – at first I thought someone was braking in. He didn’t look too happy so I let him be, and they packed up and left by 6 – which allowed us to finally get back to sleep.

We stayed in bed until close to 9am, which is verrry late in camping terms and then headed into town for breakfast. The bacon and egg roll has to have been the best I have ever had!, Bel agreed – just perfectly done.  It was fish bacon of course (being good Friday and all 😜).

After breakfast we headed home and I fixed the kayak. The handle had broken off and needed to be re-riveted. Once done we were off to the creek again for a day on the water.

The temperature was 30 degrees with no humidity and a light breeze – just perfect. We launched the kayak and paddled up the creek for a few Kms. There was activity on the banks around every corner, with people either swimming, stand up paddling, kayaking or fishing.

We had paddled against the tide on the way up so the return trip was a free ride just drifting with the tide. We passed one group that had tied all of there floats together into a big raft – drinks in hand too!

Once back we set up the chairs and umbrella and swam for the rest of the day. Bel went and made sandwiches and brought them them back down for lunch.

In the afternoon I had a try to see how the kayak went solo. A bit too much weight in the back end 😳 meant I had to shuffle forward, but otherwise it went fine.

A great couple of days, and would definitely come back – such a lovely hidden spot.
