Forster

Bel and I arrived in Forster Tuesday and booked in for three nights. We have been here on day visits a few times before, but never really explored the area.
Wednesday

We started Wednesday with a kayak paddle. Foster is the inlet to the Great Lakes, so lots of places to explore.  Our campsite was about 20m from the water so very easy to get going.

We explored for about an hour checking out some very nice water front properties, and even nicer boats. There were lots of oyster leases as well (we made note of this for lunch plans).

Once back we grabbed a coffee and then headed straight to the pool. It’s been consistently above 30 degrees here with high humidity, so very sticky. We floated around the kid free pool (love holidays out of school hols) and then went for a bike ride to check out town.

First was the obligatory ride across the Foster-Tuncurry bridge. Technically they are two towns, but have really been one for decades. Such a beautiful setting, with one direction leading to the open ocean and the other to the Great Lakes.

We then headed across to Foster Main Beach, following the cycle path along the breakwater and across the headland. It was the first time I have actually seen the beach in Foster!

We stopped there and had fish and chips for lunch while enjoying the view.

After lunch we were back on the bikes, heading back over the bridge to Tuncurry Rockpool. A great little spot for a swim, right next to the ocean inlet.

While there we also got to try out our new Turkish Towels – thank you so much Kath and Pete, the perfect size for bike ride swims.

From there it was time to head back to camp for drinks and dinner. Roast pork and veg!

Thursday

We started the day with our usual 2 cups of tea; and some leftover roast pork on toast of course😜!

A much quieter day was planned. After a quick shop, first stop was a swim and then we headed to lunch at Hamiltons oyster restaurant.

A lovely spot on the water, walking distance from our campsite. For entree it was oysters of course. I had the raw oyster tasting plate – wasabi, avocado, smoked, lemon, passion fruit, limeair – all great. Bel had kilpatrick – awesome, but not as good as treehouse😜.

We  shared a few other plates for mains, and then just enjoyed the afternoon breeze by the water. A lovely restaurant/bar in a great location – highly recommended.

A great couple of days in Forster, a very pretty place. I’ve never realized how big the lake system is here, and we have seen more of the place on the bikes than I have seen in the previous three visits.
