Heading to WA (again😊)

After leaving Darwin’s Free Spirit Resort, our home for 11 days, Steve took me on a quick tour of Litchfield National Park. He had already been there so was able to save me some unnecessary walksšŸ‘.

We had planned to stay at Wangi Falls but the campground was full. So we just had a swim in the beautiful plunge pool. In one of the falls it had a warm trickle of water which was lovely because the pool was quite brisk!!

Next we headed to Florence Falls with plan to stay there. The campground at Florence Falls didn’t really appeal to us either so again we just had a swim. Florence Falls was definitely my favourite. It had 2 falls. I managed to swim under one of them without panicking to too much.

From here we decided we could do the drive to Katherine.

There is a waterhole called ‘Buley (Booley??) Rock Hole’ so we had to stop for a photo. 😊

On the way out we stopped to see the great termite mounds. Quite amazing! Steve previous blog post has all the information about them.

On the way to Katherine we passed through a section on the Stuart highway where there was some burning off. And I mean burning off !! It was so thick we couldn’t see. I’m glad we didn’t meet a road train on the way through. We also noticed there were a lot of Kites flying around above the fire. The Kites wait for the animals escaping the fire and it is believed they’re so smart that they will pick up a burning twig and start fires elsewhere. It’s a like a KFC or Maccas for Kites. šŸ˜³šŸ—šŸŸ

We stayed at Manbulloo Homestead for the night which was 12km out of Katherine because everything in Katherine was booked out. On the way we realised we would be in WA the following day and that they don’t allow fruit and veg to cross the border!! We lost a lot of veg when we crossed the Nullarbor into WA last year, and we’d just stocked up on fruit and vegies in Darwin!! There was no way we were losing them again so we ate a lot of vegies for dinner.

The rest we have to the couple next door.

The next morning we were on our way to Kununurra on the Victoria Highway. The scenery and rock formations on the way were amazing!

We stopped at the Victoria Road House. The owners had a great sense of humour. Instead of a sign ‘Under new management’ it was ‘ Under new wife’ with the word management crossed out.šŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜„

After a stop for lunch we arrived in WA – again!

Just over the border was the quarantine station. We’d cleared out fridge the night before except for a sweet potato and some oranges. Sweet potato is allowed but not other potatoes! And the guy couldn’t even tell us why. 😳 Steve tried to eat the 5 BIG oranges but he just couldn’t do it! He had to hand over the one that was left. After 12 brussel sprouts the night before and 5 oranges over the past 2 days (3 today!) Steve was going to explode!! šŸ˜œšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

We continued along the Victoria Highway 50km more to Kununurra, arriving with a time difference of an hour and a half so we now had more hours for our first day in Kununurra. We had arrived in Kimberley country…..so excited!!!
