Bombala

The afternoon in the beer garden at The Grand Hotel in Bega was nice. The sun and a few drinks were lovely. Met a few of the locals which is always nice. We had a very nice dinner in the pubs restaurant and for dessert walked to Maccas for a sundae and apple pie. Yum!!!! Back to the pub to our room to watch some rugby but crashed out. Big day.

Early start to head to Bombala via Maccas. Yes! Lunch, Dessert and Brekky at Maccas in Bega. Got lots of Monopoly things!

The drive to Bombala was very scenic and mostly dirt road! The “Nav.Girl” took us a round about way we think.

Once in Bombala we headed straight to the Bombala River to find a place to launch the kayak. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day and a lovely paddle up the river and back. Almost 2 kms! Feeling it tonight!

After our kayak we went to check in to our accommodation, The Heritage B&B. No one was there! Had to call someone! They couldn’t come for an hour so we walked the Main Street of Bombala. Very short street! Finally got into our room. Wow! Luxury! Ended up with a spa room for the same price because our room wasn’t ready!! Have a spa room!!

Next we went to try out the local bakery. Pie and a sausage roll very yum! The cakes and slices and doughnuts looked amazing!! Typical country bakery. Maybe a stop on the way out??

After lunch we took a drive to see the sights. First we drove to the platypus reserve. No platypuses to be seen (like whales!) but we did see a skink local to the area.

After that we drove to Delegate to see an old house that is believed to be one of the first settlers houses in the area. The locals restored it in 1988 as part of a bicentennial project. During the drive back to Bombala I fell asleep! Not unusual for me in a car! Once back in Bombala we found the old railway station and The Old Farm Machinary Museum. Many old places in Bombala!

Back to our accommodation to change and straight to the RSL. It was warm and cosy. We had dinner in the RSL too. Steve had his favourite ‘crumbed lamb cutlets’ again. Both knackered! Steve is asleep while I’m writing this. Busy day! Goodnight. Xx
