Yeppoon

After a week of peaceful rainforest Steve and I arrived back in Hervey Bay for one night. The park we stayed at was onthe main  street and a favourite for the local hoons on their Harley’s and noisy car mufflers. Very different from our week on Fraser Island!!!

Next morning we drove to Yeppoon.

Do you know where Yeppoon is?? It’s next to your fork. 😂😂😂

It is a very pretty coastal town. It was a long drive but we were rewarded with the best site in the caravan park. It was beachfront, near the toilets and very big and private.

Sunday we drove to check out the marina and then a bike ride in the afternoon to check out town. On the ride we rode past some of the local residents. Bats!! They were hanging in the bushes. Amazing site!

It was a short ride as Yeppoon didn’t have much else to see, with its main attraction being Great Keppel Island.

So, the next day we went on a cruise to Great Keppel Island for the day.

We went in a glass bottom boat and had a snorkel on the southern most part of the Great Barrier Reef.

It was awesome. We saw lots of different types fish. I was lucky enough to see a turtle and some big clams. I also found Nemo!!

After the snorkeling we had some time on the island. Sadly it is nothing like it used to be. The big resort was closed and waiting on developers to take it on. The locals are hoping for a new resort with a casino to bring more business to Yeppoon. The cruise which runs a daily fast ferry to the island along with a variety of cruises were particularly suffering. We had 4 people and a toddler on our tour.

The following day I needed a visit to the hairdresser and Steve went for a ride.

Finally the winch arrived!!! So Wednesday was taken up with its installation in Rockhampton. We’re now ready for the tip!

We drove home via Emu Park which is home to the singing ship – a bicentennial monument to Captain Cooks landing in the region. Very cool and it was singing!!

After some awful fish and chips we went back to Yeppoon to get organised for our departure the next day.
