Brooms Head

From the 50th on the Gold Coast Bel and I headed back south to Brooms Head. Once again driving through the Northern Rivers area, the constant themes are Sugar Cane and river banks; a big contrast to the grain fields down south.

We heard about Brooms Head from a couple we met at Yamba. We arrived late afternoon, after a quick visit to McLean. It’s a sleepy little place and a very welcome change from the crush of the Gold Coast caravan park. The park grounds are quite large and situated on the beachfront.

There’s a general store that does a bit of everything – bottleshop, pizza, butcher, groceries, pharmacy, post office,……. And it also has a great paint job!

There’s also a local weather station.

The next morning we went for a walk to the headland.  Before heading back to camp to beat the rain.

The next few days were very quiet. It rained all one day, and then I came down with a nasty cold/flu (first since being off work!).

On our last day there we did manage a drive to Sandon River campground, in the national park nearby. A beautiful spot that we regretted not checking out earlier as it would have been an even better place to camp.
