Back on the road with a bang!

We’re on our way

Bel and I headed off on the next stage of our tour around Australia yesterday. We are heading across the top end, from Sydney to Perth, mostly following the coastline to complete our circumference of Australia. We’ve allowed ourselves about 7 months and have timed it with the dry season.

We started the day picking up the camper trailer from our friends property at Kenthurst (no room in North Sydney). Thank you so much Craig and Erica Roy for looking after it for us – you guys are the best!

And then, thankyou to some other amazing friends, we headed off to the Hunter Valley for a Day on the Green at Bimbadgen Winery. Firstly, Lily Cammarotto kindly gave us her tickets to the event, we owe you big time Lily! And then when we were having issues finding accomodation Graham and Ginnie Puglisi came to our rescue and let us stay in their villa at Cypress Lakes – we couldn’t believe our luck.

The concert was brilliant with some of our favorite bands on show – Hoodoo Gurus, Sunnyboys and Violent Femmes. The Hoodoo Gurus was actually Bel and my first date so a real blast from the past.

Thanks to Graham, we were able to get seats right at the stage front. What a great way to start our trip. They even included an air show for us.

Nelson Bay

Today, after a very slow start and lots of caffeine, we headed across to Nelson Bay. It’s another old haunt of ours that we haven’t seen for about 15 years. We arrived mid afternoon and set up camp. We are a bit rusty so it took a while to get our heads back into gear, but it all came back – eventually. We also put up the new awning and annex – it will allow us to fully close the kitchen in in bad weather. Love the new setup.

Once set up, it was time to get the maps out and start plotting our course – so many places to see.
