Tamworth – Home of the Golden Guitar.

Steve and I arrived in Tamworth tired after a busy week catching up with the Creso Crew and a 5 hour drive.

After setting up we relaxed and planned to head into town to watch the Tahs game. We were both too tired so walked to Red Rooster for dinner and came back to watch it on the iPad. We were both too tired to see it through!!

It’s bloody noisy caravan park!! We woke to some noisy locals in the car park next door going on a Rotary scavenger hunt. Every time someone registered the man would say “GO!” Very loudly! The previous night there was a private function in the camp kitchen/recreation room (it sounded like a trivia night) with everyone cheering and laughing loudly. Not to mention kids at this function with a spotlight outside shining it into our tent!! The roads near us are also busy and being Saturday night lots of hoons. Oh well, luckily we were tired!!

Sunday we did our usual ride to check out the town. Tamworth is a contrast in landscapes we have driven through recently. It’s very dry and dusty.

We rode out to the Golden Guitar which was interesting.

There were guitars signed by famous people.

There was also a gift shop and a wax museum,(the wax figures weren’t quite like Madame Tussauds!!) and a Collectors Museum with sporting memorabilia which we missed! It has the largest privately owned collection of Bradman Memorabilia!

After the Golden Guitar we rode further on and stopped to look at the Tamworth Entertainment Centre. Out the front it had an honours roll for the famous country musicians.

We then rode to AELEC. (Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre) It hosts most of Australia’s horse events, cattle sales and the National Alpaca Show. We weren’t sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. It was basically  Cowboys and cowgirls showing their cattle rustling skills. (I’m sure it has a name!) The riding skills of these guys and girls was amazing!! The horses were beautiful and also very skilled!

After this we rode back to town to go to the street markets. Not a lot there but Steve found some his favourites at the cake stall that he used to have when he was little. They were ginger cake and coconut raspberry slice. And they’re yum! Good old country baking.

I managed to get two flat tyres on the way back to town! My tyres were full of little thorns which we later found out are known as ‘Cats Heads’. Nasty little pricks!!

2nd flat

We had a nice lunch at The Pig and Tinder Box. Which I’m sure was the most expensive place to eat in town or it was because it was the only place open? Most shops were closed on Sunday like it used to be.

On leaving to go back to the caravan park the ‘nasty little pricks’ struck again! Steve had a flat!! So we were walking back.

We’d planned to drop into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but it’s not open on Sunday’s!! What the??

After we got back we went and restocked our supplies ready for the next part of our trip.
