Kalbarri

Steve and I continued south to Kalbarri. It is a very small and pretty coastal town at the mouth of the Murchison River. It would be a fantastic place to holiday in summer to kayak, swim and snorkel. Unfortunately it was a bit too cold!

On our way out along World Heritage Drive we stopped at Eagle Bluff lookout hoping to see a dugong or a whale. 😳 We didn’t see either!! However, we did spot a shark which was guessed at around 4 foot long. It was a beautiful view of our very rugged coast.

We arrived in Kalbarri early afternoon and went for a quick walk up the road to town. As I said, it is very small. We tried some of the local Mulloway and calamari for lunch. Unfortunately the fish wasn’t up to scratch, Steve found out later that Mulloway in WA isn’t jewfish like in NSW, and at $15 a piece we were robbed!! 😳😳

After lunch we drove the coast of Kalbarri National Park. Our other option was to go out to the Gorge, but we were a little over Gorges for the moment. The views were beautiful with an endless horizon and harsh but spectacular rocky cliffs.

There were some interesting rock formations. Natural Bridge looked like a bridge and Island Rock was once part of the shoreline and now stood as a solitary stack. There were lots of other lookouts with stunning views.

Overnight the rain came. We haven’t seen a lot of rain until reaching the south coast. Before the coast the last rain was at Cape Tribulation. The tent is getting a good wash!!

The following day we put the car in for a service and the rain continued. We had planned a bike ride so instead it was a relaxing day chilling and reading. Steve cooked me Bacon and Eggs, and then Porkies on the BBQ for lunch. It was so cold we put the heater on and sat inside.

After picking the car up in the afternoon we went to the local hotel.

We hadn’t planned on staying long but met a couple from Ongerup. They owned a pub there. They had an Ongerup Pub Crawl. It started there and finished there.

The following day it was time to keep heading south toward Perth. We were getting closer to finishing our lap.
