Snakes alive!!

Another beautiful day in Congo, 25+ degrees, with a nice coastal breeze……but it wasn’t all good!!!

Bel and I both woke up lots of times during the night because it was bloody freezing!!!  We had decided to leave the sleeping bags behind and just bring a doona, no rolling up bags, and no getting twisted up…. Well now we know why you take sleeping bags camping! To make it worse the air bed wasn’t quite pumped up enough so we also spent a lot of the night rolling into each other; was nice at first….. We were up at about 6.30 and decided over a tea that we need another doona, ..and underlay!!

We started the day with a walk along the beach, a very beautiful spot. A lot of visible rocks in the water so not sure how good it would be for swimming/surfing, but very scenic and great for a dip when the water warms up. We walked back over the headland and tried to spot some whales. Met another camper with binoculars who said they had seen a couple a little earlier, he kindly lent them to us but we couldn’t see them.

Afterwards we headed out for a ride. We had heard about the bingi dreaming track, an 8km walk/bike trail along the coast, so we went looking for it. About 1km up the road we found the entry and off we went. A great little track that was clearly used by mtbers with nice little jumps and drops built in. After about 5km the trail went onto the beach (not great for bikes) but there was a very narrow inland track that I decided to follow. 100m in and I rode through a spider web, while I was complaining Belinda screams Snake!!! There was a red belly black snake 1m from the track! We had hit a dead end, and now we had to turn around and go back. Bel made it clear to me we weren’t going back the way we came, but I couldn’t see any other options so we decided to take the “be very noisy path”. Sure enough we saw the snake slither away as we approached on the way back and we were back on the bikes again 😊. We decided it was time to ride back to camp, and about halfway home as we crossed a creek Bel saw another snake!!! I have never seen her run so fast, Usain Bolt would have had no chance. Didn’t get a chance to see this one, but Bel reckons it was the first snakes mum., she also made it clear this was the last time we were riding this track.

Here’s a link to our ride data: Bingi dreaming track

After a quick trip in the afternoon to Moruya we now have a new doona and underlay (end of season sales😊 kept us on budget) and we are both looking forward to a warm nights sleep. Bel is cooking camp style butter chicken for dinner, couldn’t be happier.😀😀😀
