We managed to get away well before the 9am checkout time. I even had a little sleep in.😉 Before leaving we stocked up on supplies and had a nice brekky and coffee. I have the worst ever hay fever so antihistamines also on the list.
We headed down the Princes Highway with a few stops along the way. First stop was Boyd Town. We had learnt all about Benjamin Boyd at The Whale Museum in Eden. He was a very wealthy man from Scotland who was involved in wool and whaling. Benjamin Boyd wanted his own town so developed “Boyd Town”. He didn’t finish it but his family recently developed it and it’s now a very nice hotel.
After Boyd Town we visited the remains of Davidson Whaling Station where the whales harpooned by Davidson’s crew were processed. There was a beautiful house belonging to the Davidson family also.
From there we went on to see Ben Boyd Tower. An amazing structure built from Sydney sandstone on a very rocky point. Boyd hoped it would be a lighthouse but it wasn’t approved. It was used as a spotting lookout for whales. Boyd’s ambitions eventually sent him bankrupt.
Next we made our way over the border to Mallacoota. We had booked in already to Foreshores Holiday Park for an unpowered water front campsite. We were blown away by the beauty of the view from our campsite. It is water front and so picturesque. Perfect for a paddle, jetties out front to fish from and the town walking distance. We are in heaven.
After a yummy dinner of steak, veggies and mushroom gravy we were looking forward to our days ahead.
